Let’s talk about Mark Zuckerberg decision to rebrand Facebook name And find answer’s for Why, What, How And When

Let’s talk about Mark Zuckerberg decision to rebrand Facebook name And find answer’s for Why, What, How And When

Mark Zuckerberg has stated his company is scraping the name Facebook. Now the company is rebranding its name to 'Meta' to reflect its growing focus on the metaverse. “From now on, we're going to be the metaverse first, not Facebook first,”

Announcement is part of the global company's big plan to develop a virtual world but experts say its an attempt to shift focus from recent controversies.

The rename to Meta, announced by Zuckerberg today at the company’s annual Connect conference, has been a secret affair since he formally kicked off the project just over six months ago. The small handful of employees involved had to sign disparate nondisclosure agreements, and Zuckerberg refused to tell the name itself when asked the day before Connect. He said he had been thinking about rebranding the company ever since he bought Instagram and WhatsApp, in 2012 and 2014, but earlier this year he realized that it was time to make the change.

Mark Zuckerberg announced “I think that there was just a lot of confusion and awkwardness about having the company brand be also the brand of one of the social media apps,” he said. “I think it’s helpful for people to have a relationship with a company that is different from the relationship with any specific one of the products that can kind of supersede all of that.”

What does Facebook new name Meta and new project metaverse means?

The metaverse is a virtual world where you can plug yourself in and do almost anything "Meta" is a Greek word meaning "beyond"

The term is believed to have been coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel 'Snow Crash'. He referred to it as a virtual world where people interact with each other using their avatars.

It's being proclaimed as the next step in the evolution of the internet, including generating new infrastructure and real-time 3D worlds. So, will people go for a cyber lunch or dinner instead of a normal one? Well, Facebook is striving to make that a reality.

The way Facebook is visualizing it, meetings can be held using VR headsets, in your chosen avatar and background setting. Pretty cool, isn't it? All of us have saw glance of such technology in movies etc.

Mark Zuckerberg said the existing brand could not "possibly represent everything that we're doing today, let alone in the future", and needed to change.

"Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we're building towards,"  he said a virtual conference to an outsider, a metaverse may look like a version of VR, but some people believe it could be the future of the internet.

Instead of linking on a computer, people in a metaverse might use a headset to enter a virtual world securing all sorts of digital environments.

Why Facebook has changed its name and getting into rebranding

On Thursday, mark zukerburg formally became the CEO and chairman of Meta, the new conglomerate company name for Facebook. The rename is about consolidation of the social media giant as being about the metaverse, which Zuckerberg sees as the future of the internet. Zuckerberg is staying in control of everything. He said in an interview that, unlike the founders of Google who stepped aside in 2015 when it became part of a holding company called Alphabet, he has no plans to give up the top job.

Rather, the switch is about acknowledging a shift inside the company that’s already taken place. Zuckerberg has been pouring billions of dollars at least $10 billion this year alone into assembling the metaverse, an broad, immersive vision of the internet taken from the pages of sci-fi novels like Snow Crash and Ready Player One. “I think we’re basically moving from being Facebook first as a company to being metaverse first,” he said this week While details are flimsy, an unified account system is going to be established to span all of the company’s social apps, the Oculus Quest headset, Portal, and future devices. That means you won’t require a Facebook account to use the Quest.

Mr. Zuckerberg stated “I think that there was just a lot of confusion and awkwardness about having the company brand be also the brand of one of the social media apps,”  he also quoted “I think it’s helpful for people to have a relationship with a company that is different from the relationship with any specific one of the products, that can kind of supersede all of that.”

After reading Facebook press release notes and all article we still don't have an answer - Is Mark Zuckerberg positing up a way for himself to change his role in the company in the coming years? Does he still see himself as a CEO and chairman in next five years?

Will there be a new unified account system across everything

The answer is NO, As quoted by Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook website

You’ll have access to Facebook account and you’ll have an Instagram account. You’ll also have an account with the company that’s the foremost level. So that way if you don’t want to use Facebook, you don’t have to use it. One interesting metaphor here is I think we’re basically positing from being Facebook first as a company to being metaverse first. I feel like this is in a way like when Microsoft went from being Windows first to cloud first.

There were all these indirect ways in which, because the company brand was Facebook, a lot of junk flowed through Facebook and the Facebook app in ways that may have not been optimal. Facebook is still clearly the app that people use the most out of all the ones that we do. But there are people who want to just use WhatsApp or want to just use Instagram, or just want to have Quest and be in VR or AR and not have to use these things.

So I think it’s about being able to choose upon which of the services you want to use and don't want to use, No matter whatever happens to your Facebook account or your Instagram account, you’re still have access to all the content that you bought in VR or all your virtual goods. You can establish an avatar and it can be linked to one of those accounts or could just be linked to your overall identity across the different apps. And you can use it in all these places if you want.

Conclusion

So we think that’s going to be pretty powerful and secure change on which Facebook is working
