In Microsoft Outlook, users may now use voice commands to dictate emails and schedule meetings. The new voice functions will be available initially in Outlook for iOS.
According to Microsoft, the updates will be 'coming shortly' to Outlook for Android. On mobile platforms, Microsoft's virtual assistant Cortana will be used to assist customers in navigating the Outlook software.
Previously, only the Microsoft Outlook desktop programme could use the dictation functionality.
The speech-to-text features in Outlook for iOS and Android, according to Microsoft's blog, will make it easier for users to send emails, organise meetings, and search the app using their voice.
Microsoft's virtual assistant Cortana, based in Redmond, California, will employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist users in doing many operations without the use of text commands, according to the company.
The ability to plan meetings using its speech-to-text capabilities is one of the most crucial new features in this Outlook release.
According to Microsoft, Cortana helps users select the right file or contact, and manage their calendars to find and organise appointments. Users must first touch the Plus icon and tap the icon on the lower right of the Outlook iOS app in order to access this new feature.
Users can now utilise the Outlook mobile app's speech features to reply to emails or compose new ones. The features make use of Microsoft Dictation, which, according to the firm, is less likely to misspell a name since it leverages Microsoft Graph to recognise a user's coworkers' names.
Finally, on Outlook speak-to-text, users can search for emails and meetings with voice input.
For example, if Cortana gets to the agenda and answers, you can say "When's my next meeting with the team?" In order for a meeting to take place on the next Monday, you can utilise sophisticated commands such as "Set up the Q1 budget meetings with Vaibhav and his team, and include Ayush." As said, the voice functionality will soon be available on Android.
